DIY Scented candleholders

Take two empty glass jars. Use rusty iron wire to make a handle or just to decorate the jars. Add some sea salt. Then add dried lavender, OR spices like cinnamon, ginger, carnation and sour orange. Mix them into the salt. Add a candle. If you use tealights (the small candles in a tin cup) they will warm up the salt and the scent will be stronger.

Tarvitaan kaksi tyhjää lasipurkkia. Ruosteista rautalankaa ripustuslenkin tekemiseen, tai vain koristeluun. Lisätään karkeaa merisuolaa, jonka joukkoon sekoitetaan kuivattua laventelia TAI kanelia, inkivääriä, pomeranssia ja neilikkaa. Lisätään kynttilä. Tuikkuja käytettäessä suola lämpenee ja tuottaa enemmän tuoksua.

Summer shirt DIY

The day before, at 9:30p.m. I suddenly had a vision and a burst of inspiration. Within 45 minutes I was wearing my new summer shirt. It was so simple I put together a DIY for you. If you need any help, just ask me!
Toissapäivänä, puoli kymmenen aikaan illalla, tuli yhtäkkiä suuri visio ja inspiraatio. Kolmen vartin päästä uusi kesäpaita oli ylläni. Juttu oli niin yksinkertainen, että kasasin siitä tee-se-itse-ohjeet. Jos tarvitset apua tai ohjeen tekstin suomennosta, kiljaise!

Keychains

I made three braided keychains. Judging by the colors I chose the spring is right around the corner!
Punoin kolme avaimenperää. Valitsemieni värien perusteella kevät on kohta täällä!

Birds should have cake, too!

A while ago I saw a very easy DIY-thing on a blog and decided to try it out. Here in Finland the winter can be cold and hard for the little birds who cannot find food when the ground is covered with snow. So people set up feeding spots for them in their yards. We have a little birdhouse in the backyard, right in front of the kitchen window. This year we hadn't started to bring out food for the birds yet, so I thought it was about time.
Jonkin aikaa sitten näin eräässä blogissa hauskan tee-se-itse-jutun, jota päätin kokeilla. Meillä on takapihalla, keittiön ikkunan edessä lintujen ruokintapaikka, mutta emme olleet vielä aloittaneet ruokintaa tälle vuodelle. Ajattelin, että olisi jo korkea aika.

You need coconut butter and various bird seeds or nuts. I used peanuts (not salted!) and peeled sunflower seeds.
Tarvitset kookosrasvaa ja erilaisia linnunsiemeniä tai pähkinöitä. Itse käytin maapähkinöitä (ei suolattuja!) ja kuorittuja auringonkukansiemeniä.

Melt the butter in a pot on low heat. You should have a lid nearby in case the oil fires up. As soon as it has melted, lift the pot off the heat. Let it cool down just a little and add the seeds. Stir a little.
Sulata rasva kattilassa miedolla lämmöllä. Pidä kansi ulottuvillasi siltä varalta, että rasva leimahtaa liekkeihin. Heti kun rasva on sulanut, nosta kattila pois levyltä. Anna jäähtyä hetkisen ja lisää siemenet. Sekoita hieman.

When the mixture has cooled down a bit, pour it into a cake pan. Mix until the seeds set evenly around the pan. Set it in the fridge for about an hour. Then dip the pan into hot water for a few seconds so it's easy to take the seed cake out.
Kun seos on hieman jäähtynyt, kaada se kakkuvuokaan. Sekoita vielä kunnes siemeniä on tasaisesti ympäri vuokaa. Laita jääkaappiin noin tunniksi. Kun otat vuoan jääkaapista, upota se kuumaan veteen muutamaksi sekunniksi. Näin saat kakun helposti irti.

Add a ribbon and take the cake outside, make sure it's high enough so the cats won't reach the birds! PLEASE NOTE: if you start feeding the birds, do not stop until it's spring and they can find food for themselves again.
Lisää ripustusnauha ja vie kakku ulos riittävän korkealle, jotta kissat eivät pääse lintuihin käsiksi! HUOM: jos alat ruokkia lintuja, jatka sitä koko talven yli, kunnes linnut taas keväällä voivat itse hankkia ruokansa.
