TOO cold.
Okay, now it is officially cold. -32 degrees Celcius. I'm not sure if people who have never experienced these temperatures really get what it's like. It's when you wear two longsleeved shirts, a thick cardigan, a thick winter coat, long johns, jogging pants, winter pants, two pairs of mittens, a hat, a hood and winter boots when you take the dogs out for 5 minutes and you're still cold, or at least your eyelashes freeze. It's when you touch your coat and it sounds like paper. It's when your car has been heated for 3 hours and yet, when you start it, it coughs and moans. It's when you have to carry along extra clothes on your 40km way to work, just in case the car breaks down after all and you'll have to wait for someone to pick you up. It's too cold.
No nyt on kylmä. -32 astetta. Ihmisten on varmaan vaikea kuvitella miltä tällainen tuntuu, jos eivät ole sitä itse kokeneet. Mehän tiedämme. Kun puet kaksi pitkähihaista, paksun villatakin, toppatakin, pitkät kalsarit, verkkarit, toppahousut, kahdet lapaset, pipon, hupun ja talvisaappaat mennäksesi koirien kanssa ulos viideksi minuutiksi, ja silti palelee, tai ainakin ripset jäätyvät. Kun kosketat ulkona takkiasi ja se kuulostaa paperilta. Kun auto on ollut lämmityksessä jo kolme tuntia ja silti yskii ja valittaa käynnistettäessä. Kun on pakko kuljettaa 40km:n työmatkalla ylimääräisiä vaatteita siltä varalta, että kaara kuitenkin jättää välille. On liian kylmä.
Vautsi! Vielä emme ole vastaavaan yltäneet.
VastaaPoistaToivottavasti ette ylläkään! Ei tuolla ulkona paljon viitsi nokkaansa näyttää, mutta onneksi on kädet täynnä töitä sisällä. Tehdään ne alta pois, niin ehtii ensi viikon ulkoilla; eikös se jo luvannut lauhtuvaa...
Poistai have only experience -25c here in the southeast of Norway, more than once, and -25c is enough for me i think!

We have had temperatures between -20 and -30 for days now, and the weekend is supposed to be as cold. I'm hoping next week will bring us some relief..!

Don't worry, we Finns are used to this kind of weather (well, if one can ever "get used to" freezing cold...) But I haven't gone out this week unless absolutely necessary! And I'll stay indoors for the weekend, it's still -32 today...
PoistaI'm with Ariane, this kind of cold scares me. I don't think I could cope. I like to complain about the constant warm weather in southern california, I would love to experience some real change in the seasons, but this...would be a little extreme for my taste. I have to say it's beautiful to look at though. Truly beautiful!
VastaaPoistaWe really have extreme changes in the temperatures troughout the year, don't we! In the summer we have had +34C and today it's -32... But it felt nice last night to have a sauna (which was about +80C) and stay inside by the fireplace. Even though we have grown up in this kind of environment, it can be frustrating when the freezing cold last for days. Some winters it stays between -20C and -30C for two or three weeks straight, and you really don't feel like going out then! On the other hand, when it settles at about -10C after that, we could almost go out without a jacket... :D

VastaaPoistaJuuri eilen illalla saavuimme Tallinan lanka-matkalta ja Virossa oli -20, mutta pakkanen puri poskia, nenää, tuuli pallelutti pakkasen puremat posket. Mutta me olemme tähän tottunnet ja langat tulivat perille, mikä oli tärkeintä. t. maiju
Kyllä olen kiitellyt, että talostamme löytyy takka! En varmaan osaisi enää ilman sitä elääkään. Hyvä, että langat saitte! Niille on varmasti käyttöä näillä keleillä, kun uloskaan ei oikein viitsi lähteä.

PoistaJuu, vaikka toki olen noin paljon elÄmÄssäni joutunut pukemaan niin ihan uskomattomalta tuntuu kuitenkin!
VastaaPoistaMun piti oikein laskea montako kerrosta puin, kun pukeutuminen (ja vaatteista kuoriutuminen) tuntui kestävän kymmenen minuuttia. On tää hurjaa, on! Hirvittää ne ihmiset, joille syystä tai toisesta nämä säät oikeasti aiheuttavat terveysongelmia ja/tai paleltumisvaaran.

Kiva kun kävit, Mari! Meillä tosiaan tuo nuorempi lapsi on karkeakarvainen ss; tosin ulkonäöltään joku ihme mutaatio, sillä sitä poikkeuksetta luullaan lyhytkarvaiseksi versioksi - niin täydellisesti se sellaista muistuttaa... Tämän "virheen" vuoksi saatiin se aikoinaan kasvattajalta alennuksella, tosin meille se on kovin rakas huolimatta siitä, mitä rotumääritelmä sanoo. Omassa ammatissaan, eli lintukoirana se loistaa, ja sitä onkin ilo katsella! :)

VastaaPoistaI can't immagine how this cold could be... I'm from Spain and last days we have arrived -5 grade celsius, it was funny,I liked . But -32 grade celsius?? How can you be so much time at home? Finland don't need to go to work when it is cold outside?
Hehehe, yes we do have to go to work! That's what I hate most about these cold days. Getting the car started, wearing tons of clothes, driving all the way to work (and I have a loooong way!) when you really don't know if the car battery dies because of the cold. It has never happened to me, and I sure hope it never will! :D
PoistaBut, you know, we are used to this kind of coldness here in Finland. Or at least here in the Northern part, where I live (we are about 500km North from our capitol Helsinki). It can be very cosy at home by the fireplace, having a hot chocolate and wearing woolen socks! But I have to admit I don't like going out for a long time on those days. I have two dogs so I _have to_ go for a walk at least twice a day. No longer than ten minutes when it's this cold; they soon start jumping on three feet when their toes get cold... :/
Some days I'd rather be in Spain, but at least it _looks_ very pretty here even though it's freezing! :D
It is So different! I find very interesting how the weather changes so much the ways of live ! I would like to try, at least for a period of time, living in north of europe.
PoistaWhat I'm sure is that you feel very warm at home, instead of here, in sud of Spain (my hometown) there is a lot of humidity at houses are not prepared to the winter: we don't have any central heating (only small butane stove) so we need to wear lot of layers of clothes (inside home) and to put blankets on. And then when we go outside, we sometimes feel even warmer than inside. It is weird !
