One more

One more photo of our trip to the cottage. One more night before going back to work again. I feel a little sad but in a good way, I think. Less than three months to our departure to paradise. I have something to look forward to.
I will most likely be quite busy for the next few weeks, but I intend to post a daily picture on *my Flickr-site*.

Vielä yksi kuva mökkilomalta. Vielä yksi yö ennen töihinpaluuta. On vähän haikea olo, mutta hyvällä tavalla. Alle kolme kuukautta lähtöön paratiisia kohti. On jotain, mitä odottaa.

Moments - at the summer cottage

To finish my "at the summer cottage" series I will gather a few posts with only photos. These are random moments, sceneries and details of our trip; things that make me love cottage living so much. I hope you'll enjoy them!

Mökkisarjan lopuksi kokoan muutaman kuvapostauksen ilman sen kummempia kertomuksia. Tulossa on satunnaisia hetkiä, maisemia ja yksityiskohtia, joiden vuoksi olen niin kovin ihastunut mökkielämään. Toivottavasti tykkäätte!

P.S. For those of you who like to use Flickr - I have *my own spot* there now.

Food - at the summer cottage

Oh yes, we enjoyed our food out there. Out, literally. Everything was cooked outside and I think we only dined inside the cottage once, when it was rainy. Food tastes so incredibly good when you're out on the patio, you can hear the sound of the waves (and the mosquitos) and the night is getting dark. It's not pitch black here in Finland at this time of year, but we always dined so late (10 p.m. or so) because the days were so filled with stuff to do. Stuff more important than eating; like sitting on the stairs in the sun, taking a daytime nap, heating up the sauna, fishing, just enjoying it all. I think I need to get a bite to eat now.

Ruoasta todella nautittiin.

Nothing to do - at the summer cottage

Sometimes there was just absolutely nothing to do at the cottage, and I loved it.

The surprise cocktail - at the summer cottage

This was one of my favorite moments of the whole trip. For weeks before my summer vacation even started, I had planned a surprise for our friends. It started with an idea of listening to summer party songs, then developed into having pretty cocktails along with the music, then it just got out of hand completely. This is what I came up with, I was so happy with the result! And the next day we had a delicious snack, as we carved the rest of the fruit and ate it.

It was so simple after all. Just take a large watermelon and see if it can stand on the table without rolling over (if it does roll, cut a very thin slice off the bottom so it stands still). Cut "a hat" off the melon and carve it hollow. Leave quite a lot of the red stuff on the walls, for some flavor (and for eating it later). Add a cocktail of your choise; I used vodka, banana liqueur and orange juice. Take colourful balloons and hook them up to the cocktail with toothpicks (as you can see I found these awesome pirate-toothpicks...) Add candles or other colourful, festive decorations of your choise. Cut some carambola slices and add them to the drink. Serve as a surprise feature with the carved watermelon slices, and remember the colorful straws for everyone. Success guaranteed! (By the way, *this* was the song I played on my mobile phone, when I told my friends they could open their eyes.)

Menestys on taattu!

Doing the dishes - at the summer cottage

Cooking wonderful meals at the cottage also means someone has to do the dishes. It's a whole different thing when you're out in the nature with no running water (unless you decide to run while carrying the bucket). First you need to pick up some wood and carry it to the sauna cabin. Then you light the fire on the sauna stove that heats up the water in the boiler. Oh yeah, there is no water in the boiler unless you carry it, so off you go! Up and down the cabin stairs to the lake and back, until there is enough of it. When the water is hot enough, you run back to the cottage to get the dirty dishes. On the cabin stairs you can enjoy the sun at the same time. Or the rain. Or the mosquitos. No matter what the weather, I like this routine. I like how it makes you appreciate water, and think about how much we waste it back home. I also realise it's only possible when you're on vacation. You would never have the time for all the necessary chores, if you had to go to work. I may have to buy a lottery ticket again...

There were fish - at the summer cottage

There are many ways to try and catch a fish. I was lazy and only tried one - fortunately the guys were enthusiastic and we definitely didn't have to starve ourselves.

Trying to catch dinner - at the summer cottage

A proper fishing trip starts with engine problems, coming back to shore, trying to fix it all night and having to wait until the next day for a friend to bring new parts for the outboard motor.

Kunnon kalareissu alkaa koneongelmilla, takaisin rantaan palaamisella, koko illan kestävällä korjausoperaatiolla, ja odottamalla seuraavaan päivään, kunnes kaveri tuo perämoottoriin varaosia.

Oh but they got there after all!

Niin sinne kuitenkin lopulta päästiin!
